Tempered glass changes how you use it: all ten watches stay in view without lifting the lid, and dust stays out. Gloss-varnished Makassar veneer on a ten-watch wooden box, black suede-effect lining, 50 mm cushions. 33 × 26 × 9 cm, 2.1 kg.
That is the point of this version. The lid carries tempered glass — not acrylic — which does not scratch on the first pass of a cloth and does not yellow over the years.
At ten watches, the difference in use is real: you spot the piece you want at a glance, without lifting a lid or disturbing its neighbours.
Glass lets light through. A coloured dial, a light leather strap or an aged lume bezel does not like prolonged exposure. If the box sits near a window, choose the solid lid version. In a wardrobe or on a shaded dresser, glass is all upside.
Dark brown streaks over a lighter ground, under multi-layer gloss varnish. Each divider is varnished on top and lined only on the sides, so opening reveals a grid of wood rather than a textile border.
Filmed in our workshop on the eighteen-watch Makassar. Veneer, tempered glass and 50 mm cushions are identical; only the capacity differs.
In six watches, the Makassar glass-top 6 uses exactly the same construction. In plain black with glass, see the 10-watch matt black. And for eighteen slots, the Makassar 18 glass-top. Full selection: watch boxes and watch cases.
