Oil tanning, and what it changes

The calf of the Militare is not tanned like the other leathers in the collection: it is oil-tanned. The fat enters the fibre instead of sitting on the surface, which makes the hide denser, darker and far less sensitive to moisture. It is the process used for harness leather, not for fine leather goods.

A natural rubber lining

The lining is black natural rubber. It takes the moisture the leather would not have survived, and that is what allows outdoor wear without care. On a 44 mm case worn daily, the difference shows within the first season.

24 mm is not one brand's width

The Panerai Luminor 44 is its best-known use, but the width is shared: square-cased Bell Ross BR01 and BR03, Citizen Aqualand, Invicta Pro Diver, several large-diameter Diesel models. Our lug width table by watch model lets you check yours.

Italian manufacture

Leather tanned and strap assembled in Italy, in the Arezzo workshops. Brushed stainless buckle 22 mm included and removable. It is shown on a Panerai, by way of illustration.
