The 22mm crackled leather watch strap Crackle is built in layered buffalo hide, tanned in the Arezzo workshops in Italy, then crackled across its whole surface. Brushed stainless buckle included and removable.
The surface of the Crackle is deliberately crackled after tanning, along the full length of the strap. It is neither a flaw nor simulated wear: it is a finishing process applied to an already tanned buffalo hide, which opens the grain and creates a network of irregular lines.
Leather being a natural product, the network of cracks never repeats identically and slight colour variations appear from one piece to the next. That is the direct consequence of the process, and also what no industrial production sets out to reproduce.
The Crackle addresses military watches and wide cases: 22 mm gives it the area it needs for the crackling to genuinely read. On a dress watch it would be out of place. It is shown on a Panerai, by way of illustration.
