The 22mm rally watch strap in black and red takes the drawing of driving gloves: function holes running along the strap, meant originally to lighten and ventilate the hand at the wheel. On a large case the red perforation reads from a distance and structures the surface. It is the visual code of 1960s motorsport.

A saddler's work

Each hole is hand-lacquered in three passes so the perforation does not open. The bar seams at buckle and attachment are hand-sewn too, as is the safety stitch on the moving keeper.

Two presses

That is all it takes to change strap with the tool-free Hirsch Quick Release system. The waterproof hypoallergenic lining does the rest on the wrist.

The choice of buffalo

Hirsch uses a buffalo hide here rather than calf. The grain is franker, the material denser, and the surface handles an active wrist. Vegetable tanning leaves it its character: it darkens with time.
