The veneer echoes the chequered flag. It is a clear statement that makes no attempt at discretion: this box is for collections of chronographs, divers and pilot watches. Next to a gold dress watch it will clash — worth knowing.
The red dividers carry the idea through. Against a black or anthracite dial, that red creates the same contrast as the inside of a jewelry case, in a sporting register.
The lid carries an acrylic pane that shows all ten watches without opening. That suits the object: a box that owns its pattern is meant to stay in view.
Worth remembering: glass lets light through. If the box sits near a window, a solid lid will protect coloured dials and light leather straps better.
