20mm taupe leather NATO strap, NATOSCAN Arezzo line. Vegetable-tanned leather backed with a hypoallergenic hide, under 2mm thick. Stainless steel buckle and keepers. Handmade in Arezzo, exclusively for La Boîte à Montres. 20mm lug width — Certina DS Action Diver 38, Mido Ocean Star Tribute, Rolex Submariner Date 126610, Rolex Submariner No Date 124060, Rolex GMT-Master II 126710, vintage watches with cream markers.
We photographed this strap on a Rolex 5513, and that was not a shooting accident. The 5513 is the Submariner that followed the 6538 of Goldfinger — the one whose tritium turned cream over the decades. Taupe exists for those watches. Neither brown nor grey: the exact shade that answers markers that have aged. On a recent watch with bright white markers it will look dull. On a watch that has lived, it is the only colourway that understands what is going on.
That is the whole point of vegetable tanning. The tannins come from bark, not a chemical bath — the process is long, expensive, and it is what lets the leather darken over time instead of splitting. Hypoallergenic inner lining: nothing touches your skin that was not chosen for it.
The NATO stripe was born on the wrist of a Submariner, in 1964. Here is its leather version, on the Submariner that came next. Sixty years apart, and the construction has not changed.
Making a NATO strap in leather is not a styling question, it is a thickness problem. The strap has to travel under the caseback exactly as nylon does. Two layers of leather, hypoallergenic lining included, and still under 2mm. Fits every watch.
This strap exists nowhere but here. It is handmade in Arezzo, Tuscany, by a workshop we work with directly. No reseller offers it, no marketplace copies it — to copy it, you would first have to know how to make it.
One strap, passing under the case and looping back to the buckle. You open no spring bars, you reach for no tools. And the watch is held at two points instead of one — that is what makes this type of strap safe. Stainless buckle and keepers.
You will see nylon on screen: the demonstration is about the method, not the product. Remove the original bracelet, thread the strap under the case, done. The NATOSCAN fits the same way, material aside.
Leather does not forgive immersion. No sea, no pool, no shower, no washing machine — a soaked NATOSCAN never returns to what it was. For water, take a nylon NATO strap: that is exactly what nylon is for. Leather handles the other nine months.
Rolex Submariner 16610, Rolex Submariner 14060, Rolex GMT-Master II, Rolex Explorer 14270, Rolex Explorer II. Measure the gap between your lugs, not the case diameter.
The range has variations: see the dark green NATOSCAN and the gold brown NATOSCAN. Everything is here: Arezzo leather straps 20mm.
