Watch strap in 20mm black premium FKM rubber, Tropic Sport type with three large holes. Its pronounced perforation maximises airflow and water drainage (20mm strap, 16mm buckle). Black pairs with every watch, from a dress chronograph to the most technical diver. Quick-release, satin steel buckle, tapered 3mm to 1.5mm.
An untrained eye might mistake it for a rally strap on a racing chronograph: its large holes echo the automotive straps of the sixties. Historically, though, it is a diving strap through and through, its openings meant to drain water rather than ventilate a driver's wrist. That sporty look still lets it pair with a chronograph as easily as with a diver.
Black pairs with every watch, from a dress chronograph to the most technical diver.
The Tropic Sport takes the marine strap further: three wide cut-outs in the rubber, to drain water and let the wrist breathe. It is the companion of 1960s regatta chronographs: LIP Nautic-Ski, Yema Yachtingraf or Aquastar Regate.
Unlike low-grade rubbers that whiten, our FKM keeps its colour and suppleness season after season. This hypoallergenic fluoroelastomer withstands seawater, sun and perspiration without degrading. Its tapered thickness — 3mm at the lugs to 1.5mm at the buckle — lightens the wrist while keeping structure.
Three words for three grades. Silicone gives itself away by a slightly tacky feel and the dust it holds. Natural rubber ages and hardens. FKM stays supple, clean and stable, even after hours in salt water.
Our own footage: the FKM rubber strap filmed flat, underwater, then put to the test kitesurfing.
