Take the black-and-grey stripe, swap the grey for a clear blue. The effect stays restrained. On a blue-bezel Submariner or a GMT Batman, the colour echoes without pushing too hard. It is the easiest James Bond version to live with.

Where it comes from, a 1973 military order

The NATO is not a fashion accessory. It answers a British Ministry of Defence order, referenced G10, the name of the form a soldier filled in to get one. The brief was short: a single piece, two spring bars, nylon that will not rot in tropical damp, and enough length to go over a wetsuit. This strap follows those rules to the letter.

The idea is simple. One continuous length of nylon runs under the case, then bears against both spring bars. Nothing is sewn, nothing is glued. Buckle and keepers are cut from marine stainless steel that shrugs off salt: sea, water sports and diving leave it untroubled. A 30° machine cycle brings it back to fresh.
