Black grey is a two-tone, not a black

The hand patina lets two tones live together here: a deep black in the scale joints, a lighter grey on the crowns. From a distance the strap reads black; up close the relief appears in grey. It is the most accomplished effect in the range, and the hardest to achieve.

Hand patina on embossed leather

Each scale is worked again by hand after embossing. That work is what creates the contrast between hollows and crowns — an unpatinated emboss stays uniformly black and without depth.

The Patino is a Tuscan cowhide embossed with an alligator pattern. It does not come from an exotic hide and does not claim to. What is paid for here is the quality of the vegetable-tanned Tuscan leather and the patina work, not an origin it does not have.
