Genuine crocodile NATO strap 20mm black and red, Arezzo line. Crocodile hide backed with a hypoallergenic leather, under 2mm thick. Stainless steel buckle and keepers. Handmade in Arezzo, exclusively for La Boîte à Montres. 20mm lug width — Hamilton Khaki Murph 38, Tissot PRX Powermatic 80, Seiko Alpinist SPB121, Seiko Prospex SPB155, Citizen Promaster Fujitsubo.
Black brings out the scales better than any other shade: light does not scatter, it underlines. The red stitching keeps the whole from turning austere. The most dressed-up piece in the range.
This is where the difficulty lies. A NATO strap has to pass under the case: beyond a certain thickness, it no longer does. Yet this strap layers two leathers — the top leather and a hypoallergenic lining — and stays under 2mm. It fits every watch.
Calf embossed to look like croco is everywhere, and at distance it fools you. Up close, no: a printed pattern repeats — follow the strap and you will see the same scale come back. On a genuine hide no scale is the twin of another, and their size tapers steadily towards the buckle.
The scales deepen over the years instead of flattening.
Tuscany has worked leather for centuries, and Arezzo is one of its centres. Our NATOSCAN straps are hand-assembled there, exclusively for La Boîte à Montres. Every piece leaves a workshop, not a production line.
The strap travels under the caseback and wraps fully around the wrist — the NATO principle, transposed to leather. Nothing to dismantle, nothing to force. Both spring bars carry the watch: one lets go, the other holds. Stainless tongue and keepers.
You will see nylon on screen: the demonstration is about the method, not the product. Remove the original bracelet, thread the strap under the case, done. The NATOSCAN fits the same way, material aside.
Better said plainly. Leather is not nylon: no sea, no pool, no washing machine. If you want a strap for diving or a summer by the water, take a nylon NATO strap — that is what it is for. The NATOSCAN is for the rest of the year.
